Before the snow, live the autumn first breath

Another winter is coming, but first, we must live the Autumn as fully as we can. Autumn is a fleeting moment when the world slows down, but not us. We, the seekers of every hour, every day, every season, grasp the richness of this life.

Traditionally, we see winter as a slow and non-productive period in which we all sit, eat, and sleep. In the past, people were used to preparing their homes for the upcoming winter months that were cold and long. I speak for the people living in the era before massive industrialization, before artificial light or heat. Before industrialization, before artificial light and heat, winters were a battle. Survival was hard, yet somehow, they endured. Year after year.

What is the key to surviving these hard winter days?

Nowadays, many of us don’t need to care about the physical preparation of the house for the winter. We don’t need to cut all the trees and put them in the place. We don’t need to sleep altogether in one room to make heat in the room. Because, do you know that in Scandinavia in the medieval age, up to 15-20 people lived in the same room to generate heat and slept in one bed, up to three of them? Also, the roofs of the houses were very low, so the cold couldn’t stay in the room.

But we now have different challenges. Some days ago, one friend of mine said to me, “Every generation has its own battles”, and that’s simply true. Now, I think, in the winter period, people struggle to find mental motivation to proceed with their routines that are hard to sustain, such as training every day, eating less, or maintaining a newborn habit that can be life-changing. Why is that? I don’t know. Maybe, collectively, we lose the sense of endurance, and we lose the habit of asking ourselves critical questions like how to get where I want to be. In the past, people didn’t have problems with the lack of mental motivation because their activities were mandatory for their survival. It's strange, but asking yourself simple but valuable questions can lead you to discover the source of unlimited motivation.

For some people, the winter is a wonderful piece of natural art where the birds are hiding but still singing quietly, where the white snow covers the open fields and makes everything looks the same even its not. For some people the winter is a source of power to make things happened. It’s a period where these people continue to work, strive, create, imagine, train, write, read, and simply live!

The winter is coming for us, we need to understand that. If we embrace the winter, we will find a ton of energy, motivation and happiness, because we will know that this snow will melt, this wind will stop, and this cold will become heat and, we will enjoy every moment in every day. The key to surviving the “hard” winter days is simple.

Get up early, put your 3 layers of clothes, your ski boots, your mountaineering boots or simply your shoes and step outside. Let the exploration begin again.

Let the exploration begin again because, in these upcoming winter days, there are many things to be discovered both in yourself and in the outside world. Still, Autumn is already here, and the power of the clean air and the soft, cold wind can be felt even if you are stuck in a building working or living. No, not living. Living is only possible outside, in the woods, mountains, and nature.

Enjoy this lovely period of Autumn!
