It's outside of the city, what are you looking for
I lay on the grass with my tired body. The wind was speaking to me, to everyone who had ears at that moment. But luckily, I was alone. This moment was very simple. Mountain, wind, apple, increased heart rate, deep breath, and a bit of hunger—nothing was better!
This is how I ended up watching the blue sky, listening to the wind, and just relaxing before I played one song that always brought me back to where I am now.
Staying all day in a city is not a good practice for everyone who wants to live. I will add that living in a city is not a good practice for everyone who wants to live. This is ultimately true, no matter if we like it or not. We, humans, are made for the outdoors; we are simply made for moving, climbing, exploring, navigating and working only to survive, and I knew that. I have been telling myself every single day since I started mountaineering nine years ago that being outdoors is how everything should be.
Spending time in a closed environment, surrounded by walls with clocks on them, makes the problem even worse because one witnesses how time goes by. A lost day is not doing bad or nothing on your job, but a lost day is if you didn’t go outdoors. How many lost days can you count so far?
I had a very bad day at work, and nothing went as it should. The day was, generally speaking, non-productive and full of bad feelings until I went outdoors.
Everything, literally everything, rapidly changes while you go step by step deeper in the woods or higher on the mountain. The energy starts to come back, and the mind becomes fresh, ready to speak on every subject, ready to think for the future. At the same time, it prepares the body to enjoy the present. Finally, you feel alive, not primarily because you are on the mountain, the woods or the rock, but because your blood pressure is high enough, your blood circulation is moving rapidly, and your heart rate is increased. You are alive on a biological aspect.
Now, you feel where you belong because it's very obvious. You witness your happiness. Nothing will trigger energy and happiness as much as the outdoors can.
Noth-ing.
And after, unfortunately, an hour and a half of driving, I was moving at a fast pace up the hill towards the highest summit of Bistra. This is a mountain that I used to grow up on, in its lower villages and woods. I have a different connection with this mountain, and I always return there. Once you are on the summit of Medenica, you can see the whole western border of Macedonia, including the highest mountain ranges in the country, such as the Sar Mountains and Korab, forming a natural wall that allows people to live healthily and explore every day. And when the sun goes down, these mountains cut the last signal of the sun.
“Dark and dusty, painted on the sky, misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye”. These are some of the lyrics of the song that I listened to on the summit, lying on the grass and eating an apple. It was the most beautiful moment of the day, no matter what.
